This tracing functionality was previously available only in the most powerful controller systems. The new firmware now also equips Simatic S7-1200 compact controllers with a real-time tracing functionality for application diagnostics and debugging. The new firmware version 4.0 now enables all Simatic S7-1200 CPUs to operate as Profinet iDevices in addition to the already available option of operating as a Profinet controller. The device is designed as a DC/DC/DC variant.

In addition to line driver I/Os, its features include 24 volt DC standard inputs and outputs, Profinet functionality with two ports, and two analog inputs and outputs. Like its most powerful predecessor, the new Simatic S7-1217C CPU has a processing speed of 0.08 microseconds per operation. Moreover, the new compact CPU comes with line driver ports to drive stepping motor controls at a frequency of up to 1 megahertz. With 125 kilobyte (KB) capacity, the work memory of the new Simatic S7-1217C CPU is 25 KB larger than the most powerful S7-1215C so far. The entire Simatic S7-1200 controller range now benefits from firmware version 4.0 and its outstanding Profinet iDevice functionality. With the addition of the Simatic S7-1217C CPU, the Siemens Industry Automation Division is extending its product portfolio of compact, modular Simatic S7-1200 controllers in the high-end performance range.

I'm sure they would be happy to get you some trial software. If you experience difficulty, contact a Siemens rep. I think it offers a 21-day trial license.

And I think that a program downloaded from TIA Portal cannot be monitored by Step this link for a trial TIA Portal software download (basic): (tia-portal)-v13-sp1-trial-download?dti=0&lc=en-WW. I think a program written in Step 7, imported and converted to TIA Portal, and downloaded to the CPU cannot be converted back to Step 7. I think there are some limitations to be aware of, such as backwards compatibility. The TIA Portal can import and convert programs developed under the older Step 7 software. In that case I would seriously recommend considering replacing such a device with one supported by the TIA Portal software and purchasing the TIA Portal software package. The only reason I can see for purchasing the older Step 7 software is if you are programming an existing device that is not included in the current TIA Portal catalog. I would highly recommend investing in the TIA Portal package. TIA Portal is intended to eventually replace the older Step 7 software (currently at version 5.5). Additionally, it has the capability of programming certain drives and HMIs.
Siemens simatic s7 1200 series#
The new TIA Portal package will program many (but not all) of the previous series (200, 300, 400) as well as the newer 1200/1500 series. The Step 7 software is only for programming PLCs, excluding the 1200/1500 series PLCs.

Siemens PLC programming is done with either Step 7 or TIA Portal software.
